To check the activation status of your Microsoft Windows operating system is a straightforward process. Here are five ways to do it on Windows 11, 10, 8, 7, and Vista. Regardless of whether you personally installed Windows or acquired a computer with the operating system preinstalled, the activation status indicates that Windows is activated and genuine.

Method 1: Using the Settings App (Windows 11 and Windows 10)

Windows 11

  1. Press the ‘Windows key + I’ to open the Settings app.
  2. Click on “System.”
  3. Scroll down and select “Activation” from the right panel.
  4. Look for the “Activation” status. If it says “Windows is Active,” your copy is genuine.

Windows 10

  1. Press the ‘Windows key + I’ to open the Settings app.
  2. Click on “Update and Security.”
  3. Scroll down and select “Activation” from the left bar.
  4. Look for the “Activation” status. If it says “Windows is activated with digital license,” your copy is genuine.

Method 2: Using the Control Panel (Windows 10, 8, 7, and Vista)

  1. Press the ‘Windows key + R’ to open the Run dialog.
  2. Type ‘control’ and press Enter to open the Control Panel.
  3. Navigate to “System and Security” > “System.”
  4. Scroll down to the “Windows activation” section to check the activation status.

Method 3: Using Command Prompt (Windows 10, 8, 7, and Vista)

  1. Press the ‘Windows key + X’ and select “Command Prompt (Admin)” or “Windows PowerShell (Admin).”
  2. Type the command ‘slmgr.vbs /xpr’ and press Enter.
  3. A pop-up window will display the activation status.

Method 4: Using the Run Dialog (Windows 10, 8, 7, and Vista)

  1. Press the ‘Windows key + R’ to open the Run dialog.
  2. Type ‘slui.exe’ and press Enter.
  3. The activation status and options for activation will be displayed.

By using one of these methods, you can easily check whether your Microsoft Windows operating system is activated and licensed. If you encounter any issues or if the status indicates that Windows is not activated, you may need to enter a valid product key or contact Microsoft support for assistance.
